Super Fumble Fingers is an application that automates the installation of
the Fumble Fingers INIT.
"Fumble Fingers is an INIT [by Brad Quick]. Fumble Fingers watches the keys as
you type and when you type a certain word, it changes it to a different word.
It works in any place that uses the standard text edit functions, like dialog
boxes and the finder."
--Taken from the Fumble Fingers Docs
Originally ResEdit was necessary to change the 'STR ' resources labeled 'Old
String' and 'New String' and the INIT then had to be placed in the system
folder. But now there's Super Fumble Fingers!
How do I use it?
Try clicking on it, that works for me! Super Fumble Fingers will ask you if
you want to do one of four things. Install, Remove, Test or Quit.
Typing an 'i' at the prompt will start the 'install' sequence. SFF will
then prompt you for the 'Old String' (the word that you want to have replaced)
and then it'll ask you for the 'New String' (the word that you want written
instead). Once those are entered it'll install all the pertinent resources in
the system file and then quit. That's it!
Typing an 'r' at the prompt will start the 'remove' sequence. SFF will look
in the system file for it's resources and remove them. Don't worry, it'll only
nuke it's resources and not someone else's.
Typing a 't' at the initial prompt will run the 'test' sequence. SFF will
look for all it's resources in the current system file. They should either all
be there or they shouldn't. If a discrepancy is found with the Fumble Fingers
resources SFF will automatically remove them to avoid any nasty side effects.
Typing a 'q' at the initial prompt will quit the program.
This is not a virus! It does not replicate! It will however send your
virus software into a tizzy fit. Save yourself a headache and turn your virus
software off BEFORE you try to install Fumble fingers. It is meant as a joke
and such should be treated as such. So don't spring it on uptight people that
my have a heart attack and try to sue me (or Brad). Like Brad Quick, "I don't
take any responsibility for what you might do with this!"
Mother of mercy, you're tampering with the System file!!
Yes, I am. I do this for two reasons. One, because it makes Fumble Fingers
infinitely harder to detect by casual inspection and two, it gets Fumble Fingers
active before anything else so that such things as startup Appleshare dialogs
are susceptible to Fumble Fingers.
What about System 7?
What about it? When the original Fumble Fingers INIT file was installed in the extension folder nothing happened (i.e.: it didn't work). When installed with SFF everything works like it's supposed to (a nice side effect of Super Fumble Fingers).
